The Burnley, located at 648 Bridge Road, Richmond is our brewpub and tap house. Our team is committed to making bold and distinctive beers for forward drinkers.
Keen for a beer? The other thing can wait.
The Burnley is designed to be everyone’s local, an inclusive place to share a drink or bite with a focus on quality and education. We want to enable people to have fun and drink better, and if we can teach them a thing or two along the way, we’re even happier. At the venue you’ll find a fresh and inclusive take on Melbourne’s great pub culture. Alongside our list of fresh brews pouring straight from the brite tanks we are serving up a list of curated wines and spirits with a natural focus. The kitchen is open for lunch and dinner every day serving relaxed and quality gastro-pub fare. See Menus for our current offerings.
A Burnley beer is to be enjoyed in great company. With thoughtful ingredients and progressive collaborations we want to educate our community about beer through innovative brews.
In order to deliver the perfect beer every time we don’t cut corners on process or inputs. Our focus is quality first. To deliver a consistently excellent beer every time. We use premium ingredients, sourcing locally wherever possible. We give the beers time in tank to lager properly as the styles dictate and Head Brewer Michael uses his formal German brewing qualifications to great effect executing each brew with passion and precision.
Our Head Brewer, Michael Stanzel, recently arrived back in Melbourne after 7 years in Germany bringing a wealth of knowledge to the team. After completing his Brewer and Maltster apprenticeship at Ferdinand-von-Steinbeis-Schule, Ulm he has gone on to work in all aspects of the brewing industry from operating his own specialty craft brewery, Wild Animal, to managing large scale production facilities.
We love being a local as much as we love drinking local. We’re proud to be one of the key sponsors for the Head of the Yarra regatta. Billed Australia’s rowing classic, the annual event is hosted by Hawthorn Rowing Club, with the finish line just across the road.
We are also proud to sponsor the Hawthorn Amateur Football Club in their successful 2018 season. Congratulations to both mens and womens teams on great performances all round!

The environment is important. Which is why our up-to-the-minute brewing equipment from Spark Breweries and Distilleries implements energy and water efficient technologies. Spent grain is given to farms in country Victoria and also used in the cooking at the Brewpub to minimise waste to landfill.
